Psychiatry Recruitment

Locum and permanent psychiatry recruitment across Australia.

Psychiatry is where The Doctor Network started. We connect consultant psychiatrists with public and private mental health services for locum cover, permanent appointments and senior leadership roles.

For hospitals and mental health services

Psychiatrists for hospitals, health services and private practice.

Our founder has spent more than six years specialising in psychiatry recruitment, so we understand how mental health services run, what a good locum handover looks like, and why the right fit matters as much as filling the roster.

Whether you need short-notice leave cover, a long-term locum while you recruit, or a permanent consultant, we start with the real brief and approach psychiatrists who genuinely fit it.

For psychiatrists

You don't need to be actively looking. Tell us what the right move would look like, whether that's a regional locum, a permanent role closer to home or a step into leadership, and we'll only get in touch when something genuinely fits.

Regional and metro locums

Short and long locums, with travel and accommodation often included in regional packages.

Permanent roles

Common questions

Good to know.

How quickly can you find a locum psychiatrist?

It depends on the location, dates, rate and scope of the role. Short-notice cover is sometimes possible. The more notice you can give, along with the rate and any travel and accommodation arrangements, the better the chance of the right match.

What does a psychiatrist need to work as a locum in Australia?

Specialist registration in psychiatry with AHPRA, usually through Fellowship of the RANZCP, plus the credentialing documents the health service requires. That typically includes references, a national police check, a Working with Children Check where relevant, immunisation evidence and professional indemnity insurance.

Do you recruit for public and private services?

Yes. We recruit for public hospitals and health services, private hospitals and clinics, and private practice, for both locum and permanent roles.

Can overseas-trained psychiatrists work with you?

Yes, we're happy to talk with specialist international medical graduates about Australian opportunities. AHPRA registration and the RANZCP specialist IMG assessment need to be in place or underway before most roles can go ahead.

Is my job search kept confidential?

Yes. We won't send your CV or details to any organisation without speaking with you first and getting your agreement.
